The government will provide $74.5 million over four years from 2005/06 to increase the quality and quantity of specialist skills within Australia's defence industry, in areas such as engineering, project management and key trades. The government will provide $522 million for protective security, including enhancements at Australia's overseas diplomatic missions; $226 million to further enhance border protection, including new technologies such as ePassports and biometrics, to help border authorities to verify travellers' identities quickly and reliably; and $239 million to strengthen Australia's intelligence capabilities.
