Accident recovery combines engineering and medicine

Who would have thought that I would be writing this column early on Monday 16 January from a bed in the Canberra Hospital? I certainly did not! That I am able to is a tribute to the combined efforts of medical, engineering, scientific and technological teams and applied technology in many forms. If all of that sounds a bit melodramatic, let me backtrack seven days. On 9 January I returned to my office after an enjoyable spot of leave with family and friends, spending a fairly hectic day catching up on important matters and the usual accumulation of emails and other "old-fashioned" communications.
