Engineering technologist Andrew McLarty works for CSC Australia, a multinational organisation with about 90,000 employees. His official title is security architect for defence and a senior system engineer in information security, jobs which he describes as satisfying but containing the occasional frustrating timeframe. One of his daily challenges is acquiring commercial software subsystems to meet the needs of joint operational staff. Any acquired system must have a suitable level of security resilience. Some of the products under consideration do not have any security mechanisms in the product architecture and if selected will require wrapper programs to force them to use a set of software services to present and manipulate data.
