Creative pursuit led to engineering

Fiona nobes and jacqui rosen are accidental associates, having looked for a creative career and finding it to be engineering. "I'm an engineer by circumstance," said Rosen, who started drafting part-time to support herself through her university course in photography. "Engineering has opened my eyes to more technical knowledge, which ultimately keeps my job interesting. "Coming from a design background, I loved learning new types of computer programs. I have been able to learn 12D and a small amount of GIS, while using my skills in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator," she said. In 2005 Rosen's drafting work took her out of her hometown of Brisbane to join Parsons Brinckerhoff in Newcastle as a civil design drafter. "Working full-time in another city, and working out the challenges of living away from home for the first time was indeed a new experience," she said.
