摘要

Last month the CSIRO successfully captured carbon dioxide from a brown coal power station's flue gases in Victoria's Latrobe Valley. The CSIRO's 10.5m high pilot rig is attached to the chimney stack of the Loy Yang power station. An amine solution absorbs carbon dioxide which can then be stored. CSIRO spokeswoman Lou Morrissey said researchers are trying out various liquids to determine which amines work best. The rig can capture about 1 Mt of carbon dioxide a year. So far, CSIRO has been releasing the carbon it captures. "We are trying to prove the technology works," Morrissey said. In a fully-functioning carbon capture and storage system, the resulting liquid would be pumped underground.
