Seminars to help overseas engineers adjust

An industry seminar was held in Melbourne last month as part of a Victorian government program to assist newly-arrived skilled migrants in entering that state's workforce. The seminar, which is the first in a series, was hosted by Dr Ian Kerr, chair of Engineers Australia's Victoria Division. Future seminars will become part of the Victorian government's Post Arrival Services Program which will receive $700,000 in state funding over the next four years. There will be 20 seminars a year. Glenda Graham, Engineers Australia's industry and accreditation manager, speaking at the inaugural seminar, stressed the importance of preparing skilled migrants for work in Victoria.
