Bowel cancer - new government program could help save your life

As part of a new health initiative, the federal government will send you a present in the mail when you turn 50, 55 or 60. Unlike a stimulus payment or tax refund, this gift could save your life (not just your finances) by helping your doctor to detect early signs of bowel cancer. According to Dr CameronrnBell, who is the head of the Department of Gastroenterology at the Royal North Shore Hospital and director of the Bowel Cancer & Digestive Research Institute at the hospital in Sydney, 13,000 Australians will contract this potentially fatal disease every year. Of these, 4000 will die from it, with the biggest tragedy being that many of those deaths could have been avoided if the disease has been detected earlier.
