BHP Billiton is streamlining its operations on its Iron Ore Rapid Growth Project 4 at Port Hedland, Western Australia to handle a throughput of 155Mt/a of ore.rnThis includes the development of a new crushing and screening plant, as well as new stockyards, car dumping and train loading facilities at Mount Whaleback.rnAdditional infrastructure upgrades will be implemented at satellite ore bodies, and at BHP's rail and port operations.rnMelbourne-based Atlas Rail has recently supplied and commissioned a fully automated wheel demount press, an automated wheel press and various brake testing machines for the Ore Car Repair Shop at Port Hedland. The wheel demount press is able to quickly remove wheels from train axles. It has been designed torncomplete the process automatically and is capable of stripping the wheels from the axle in less than four minutes.
