12 hospital upgrades designed in 12 weeks

Tenders have been awarded and construction has started on infrastructure upgrades at 12 rural and remote hospitals across Queensland. Assessment of the facilities was undertaken in 2009 and 2010 revealing some major service degradation and statutory non-compliances, according to Susan Middledich deputy director-general, system support services division with the Department of Health, Queensland. Upgrades necessary in the majority of the facilities comprise electrical and fire safety systems, security systems, lift access and airconditioning.
