1. In incremental forming of sheet metals so far a single point incremental forming tool was used for the past 20 years all over the world. 2. With single point incremental forming tool the forming time taken is found to be large. 3. To decrease the forming time a multi-point tool is invented. 4. In single point incremental forming (SPIF) process, a single point tool with a ball head is widely used to deform the sheet metal to the required shape. This tool is generally made of tool steel and contact with the sheet with or without lubricant. This kind of tool takes too much of the processing time since the tool diameter normally used are 8mm,10mm and 12mm. 5. In order to overcome this problem a multi point tool was developed by trial and error method to reduce the forming time. 6. The MPIF tool is developed in four varieties of 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm, 12.7mm (0.5) with end radius as 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, and 6.35mm respectively. The dimensions of holes in cup and corner radius in mandrel are designed to change accordingly. 7. The novelty of the tool is that such a multi point tool was not available so far to conduct incremental sheet metal forming all over the world. High production rate, surface finish and formability were observed during the laboratory experiments. 8. This is a good example for an indigenously developed tool from India under Prime Ministers Make in India programme. This tool can be used for skill development program for vocational courses like ITI, Apprentices Training centres. Diploma, Vocational Higher Secondary Course etc. throughout India and in foreign countries. 9. As the Multi Point Incremental Forming (MPIF) tool is the first type in the world all claims are reserved by the three Inventors. Claims include any slight change or major changes in the dimensions and parameters.
