Our global profession

Engineering has become a global profession. Our engineers are increasingly working on projects located outside Australia or are based overseas. Our engineering companies are operating wherever their expertise is in demand - in Asia, the Middle East and the UK. My own company has several overseas offices and most of our sales are made overseas. This global outlook is increasingly important for a country with a relatively small economy compared to the rest of the world and where distance is no longer a barrier thanks to high speed communications. Many countries such as Norway and Sweden have developed expertise in niche areas of engineering that they are selling to the world. Australia also needs to become a global leader in technologies that are specific to our own engineering environment.
