Tunnelling breakthrough on Legacy Way

Amajor milestone in Brisbane's $1.5 billion Legacy Way project has been achieved with the breakthrough of the first of two tunnel borers at Kelvin Grove five months ahead of schedule. The Transcity joint venture, comprising BMD Constructions, Ghella and Acciona, is using two large-diameter Herrenknecht double-shield tunnel boring machines (TBMs), which are 12.4m in diameter, 110m long and weigh 2800t, to excavate the tunnel under Brisbane's inner west.
