Starting a manufacturing renaissance

Australian engineer Andrew Liveris, chairman and chief executive of The Dow Chemical Company, has called for a global advanced manufacturing renaissance led by chemical engineers. Liveris made the remarks in the UK, where he delivered the George E. Davis Lecture for the Institution of Chemical Engineers and accepted the Davis Medal in recognition of his contributions to chemical engineering. His speech emphasised the importance of manufacturing: "Studies show that depending on the type of manufacturing, each job inside the plant can spur the creation of three to five more outside of it.
