Bypassing registration requirements

My previous letter in the February issue commented on EA support for the prosecution of Peter Ruffini for failing to keep his RPEQ registration current. It was answered by Dr Peter Greenwood in the March issue. It was easy to accept and support much of his contribution. However, it is unfortunate that one of my key points was ignored. While government departments and some larger private construction projects will specify registered engineers, many large and small private employers will not welcome the additional inflexibility in their workforce and can easily avoid it by calling (titling) their engineers something else. My firm has very well qualified clients performing engineering tasks in this way.
