Graduate school proposal gains pace

Early in 2012, the National Committee on Engineering Design (NCED) conducted an online survey of members of the Mechanical College which assessed interest in the establishment of a Graduate School of Mechanical Engineering Design and Manufacture. Over 650 responses were received. The concept, to turn out well-trained practical, creative engineering designers, was generally well supported with 45% of the respondents considering their organisation will need about the same number of design and R&D engineers over the next 5-10 years, while 40% felt they will need more.
