Michael John Smith 1947-2013

Michael John Smith, managing director and CEO of Vipac Engineers & Scientists, died suddenly in January aged 65. Vipac received two Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards in 1999 for its work on the BAMbino, the world's first portable bearing acoustic monitor (BAM) for accurate and easy detection of faulty idler bearings in conveyors used by the mining industry. The BAMbino greatly advanced Australian research and development in mining and bulk material handling.
