Don George 1926-2014

Prof Donald George was an academic role model who served in strong national and international positions in the management and development of nuclear energy, direct energy conversion and solar energy. He never wavered in his belief that nuclear power had a place in the world's future. George served as Newcastle University's second vice chancellor from 1975 to 1986 and his legacy includes support of the medical school and the indigenous student support program, Wollutuka. He was also the chair of mechanical engineering at the University of Sydney, chair of the university's professorial board, chairman of the Australian vice chancellors committee, vice chairman of the board of trustees at the Asian Institute of Technology and chairman of the Australian Atomic Energy Commission.
