Bombarded with choice

Flicking through a newh acquired online video streaming service, I felt overwhelmed by the choices. I didn't have enough information to know which of the thousands of options were worth my time and effort. A bigger challenge seemed to be to review even a small percentage of the options. My newly divorced friend expressed she same sentiment. He had gone online and was inundated with "kisses" from a popular dating site. How to navigate his way through the lush field of possibilities? When information is so readily available, when there are so many alternatives, how do we choose? I low do we even narrow the field down to one small enough for us to investigate properly?
