The whole subject of risk analysis and management within engineering projects has grown in significance, and software developers have produced a range of packages which seek to address the needs. This two-part article considers some current packages and describes their applications. The article considers categories of risk, the two approaches to risk analysis, techniques associated with investment risks and strategy risks, and qualitative issues.
