On Feb. 6 the president released the federal budget recommendations for fiscal year 2007. That same day the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) commented on how the budget would affect construction. Stephen E. Sandherr, the CEO of AGC, said that the president demonstrated his commitment to the highway program and praised the first-time funding of $50 million in grants to construction contractors to retrofit equipment. AGC expressed concern about long-term solvency of the Highway Trust Fund and cuts to wastewater and drinking water infrastructure funding, as well as to grants for safety training.
