From my perspective as Senior Vice President of M.A. Mortenson Company, and as a Member of the DBIA Board of Directors, I am very aware of the challenges facing the American design and construction industry today. The challenges come from two directions. From outside comes challenge from foreign firms that have superlative business and technical skills and are accustomed to operating in a design-build and integrated project delivery environment. From inside comes "THE PERFECT STORM" - a mix of business and technical changes that are challenging traditional ways of doing design and construction.
