BRIDGE TECHNOLOGY: BEYOND DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

The National Highway Systems (NHS) Bridge Reconstruction initiative bill and bridge-related legislation do more than just authorize funds to repair, rehabilitate, and replace structurally deficient bridges across the U.S. They call on DOTs and other transportation authorities to find more effective ways to manage bridge inventories through their lifes-pan with the aid of technology-driven bridge management solutions. Tools such as MSHTO's BRlDGEWare Suite for bridge design, maintenance and inspection activities are uniquely designed per the AASHTO Cooperative Computer Software Development Program. Development of BRlDGEWare applications is guided by a Task Force comprised of members from various state dots in order to facilitate these activities with greater accuracy, speed and ease. Michael Baker Jr., Inc. has been involved in the development of BRlDGEWare since 1995 and is currently involved in the development and maintenance of all three modules.
