New Orleans Levee Board Funds Review of Corps Work

The state-appointed authority over the levees and floodwalls of New Orleans' three big outfall canals will hire its own consultant to review the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' assessment of seepage at a breach repaired after Hurricane Katrina. Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East voted on July 17 to hire a consultant to evaluate seepage at two spots the Corps has been monitoring since the end of 2007. The areas are within a 690-ft replacement stretch of T-wall that was built according to the recommendations of the Corps-sponsored forensic investigative team, the Interagency Performance Evaluation Task Force.
