By the year 2010, visitors to Nevada's Hoover Dam will look to the southwest and see a second engineering marvel-the magnificent arching span of the Colorado River Bridge suspended 900 ft. above the mighty Colorado River.rnThe Colorado River Bridge is the centerpiece of the Hoover Dam Bypass project, which is, in turn, the answer to a problem that has hampered the existing U.S. Highway 93 route for many years. As the main thoroughfare across the dam, the highway's increased traffic has congested the crossing making the route unfeasible. To remain viable, engineers needed to create an alternate US-93 crossing. Plans were drawn up and construction of the Bypass launched in 2005.
