摘要

The U.S. construction industry comprises up to 11% of the U.S GNP. It is the largest service sector in the U.S. CEOs of the Big Three automobile manufacturers went to Washington, D.C., last fall to plead for bailout packages. The fact is that without the construction industry, we would be in an even more serious financial situation than we face today. Despite being the largest service sector in the U.S., construction is simply "The Industry That Time Forgot." The construction industry is viewed as tedious, dirty and physically exhausting work. The Krantz 2002 Jobs Rated Almanac indicated that of 250 choices that a person may select for a job, construction worker ranked 244, with only the jobs of being a cowboy, seaman, ironworker (construction!), cab driver, fisherman or lumberjack being worse. If we are to encourage individuals to seek jobs and careers in the construction industry, then we as an industry are going to have to change.
