Feeding Growth in Idaho

The city of Ammon is one of Idaho's rapidly expanding suburban cities. The influx of new residents and businesses in the city necessitated additional water storage for drinking as well as for essential fire protection.rnTo meet this requirement, a 2-million-gallon water-storage tank, plus booster station, were recently constructed. To attain a high-strength, low-maintenance watertight structure, the project's design incorporated the use of prestressed concrete for the tank. With an inside dia of 118 ft and a water depth of 24 ft, the tank was constructed utilizing a poured-in-place corewall and a flat concrete-slab roof supported by 24 concrete columns each 24 in. dia. The 10-in.-thick corewall was circumferentially and vertically prestressed by DYK Inc.'s equipment, which is fully automated to ensure that the necessary quality control was consistently maintained. All construction joints incorporated PVC waterstops to ensure a watertight structure.
