Markets Up Over First Quarter of 2011

The dollar value of total construction put-in-place during the first quarter of 2012 is estimated at $171.2 billion, according to the U.S. Dept. of Commerce's latest data through March of this year. That total puts construction 6.7% above the first quarter of 2011. On a seasonally adjusted basis, total construction in March was running at an annual average rate of $808 billion, which was on par with February's annual growth rate and 6% above the annual pace set in March 2011.
