He has walked through the bowels of some of the East Coast's biggest tunneling jobs, from Boston to Washington, D.C., and beyond. But for Gary Almer-aris, the biggest thrills of a career packed with notable projects is working on the Second Avenue subway and the extension of the No. 7 line in Manhattan. "I'm a New Yorker," says the project executive with Skanska USA Civil, who is a tunneling veteran of nearly 20 years. "I really enjoy working on the New York City transit system. I feel like I'm adding to the lifeline of the city."
