Recycled Water Conversion Project Adopts Over-Insertion Protection

Camino Del Sur Recycled Water Conversion Project in San Diego, Calif., included the installation of 2,548 LF of 16-in. PVC recycled water main to facilitate the conversion of existing purple water pipe system to a recycled water system. The 16-in. PVC pipe would be pushed through a 30-in. HDPE casing from an 18 ft deep trench box. The casing included a 1209.7-ft radius for a length of 250 ft. The engineer specified Mega-Stop® bell over-insertion protection system from EBAA Iron to facilitate the use of standard PVC pipe without concern for over-belling, a common cause of pipe failures. The Mega-Stop system allows for expansion/contraction of the pipe and permitted joint deflection using an expansion retention spring.
