TIGER 2014 Aid Level Unclear

Dept. of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx delivered welcome news to state and local sponsors of 52 projects on Sept. 5, awarding them each a share of $474 million in the latest round of the popular TIGER grants program. But DOT's selections in the fifth round of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery program disappointed those backing the 53 3 projects that didn't make the cut. At least some unsuccessful applicants will reapply next year. But with federal spending under heavy pressure, TIGER's 2014 funding is up in the air. This year's $474 million is TIGER's lowest level in its five-year history and reflects the 2013 budget sequester's 5% mandatory cut.
