Caterpillar Inc. is investing in Uptake, a Chicago-based technology startup, to provide data analytics based upon the wireless information obtained from machines working in the field. "Customers use our current technology for fleet monitoring and to track fuel efficiency, idle times, location and more," said Doug Oberhelman, Cat chairman and CEO, in a statement March 5 announcing the company's minority stake. "Our existing solutions are effective, but it's time we take it to the next level."
