Three executives of Buffalo contractor LP Ciminelli, among five other execs and public officials charged with corruption and fraud in a New York state pay-to-play sting, pleaded not guilty on Dec. 1. A U.S. district court judge in Manhattan set March 1 as the executives' next court date, citing "voluminous discovery that needs to be produced and reviewed." Charges against CEO Louis Ciminelli and execs Michael Laipple and Kevin Schuler relate to the firm's construction-management award for a $750-million project under the "Buffalo Billion" economic development plan. The firm no longer is involved in the project. Also pleading not guilty were Joseph Percoco, former top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D); Alain Kaloye-ros, a former state university chief; Steven Aiello and Joseph Gerardi, executives of a Syracuse developer; and Peter Kelly, an upstate power-firm executive. A spokesperson for LP Ciminelli did not return a request for comment.
