Responding to a global glut in steel production that has led to a collapse in steel prices, China plans to cuts its steel production by 150 million tons over an un-designated time period, according to a report from IHS Gobal Insight. China already has shut down 90 million tons of capacity. China also says it will restrict the opening of new capacity. The cuts by China, by far the largest steel producer in the world, should help to ease downward pressure on steel prices.
