Benchmarks of a Successful CCIP

Every successful contractor-controlled insurance program (CCIP) comprises three key features.The first critical element is, of course, the team. Every good CCIP begins with a quality team that is focused on completing a project on time and on budget, but most especially safely.Second, there must be a strong integration between the safety best practices across all lines of coverage, including workers' compensation, general liability, builder's risk, pollution, etc.Third, effective and constant communication early in the project amongst all parties-generalcontractor, subcontractors, brokers and underwriters-vital. Too many times, we see a different relationship between the CCIP sponsor/subcontractor and GC/subcontractor. Every successful CCIP requires a firm belief that we win, or lose, as a team.One last note: regularly benchmark best practices. Make sure you can answer questions like: Why was my most recent $300-million project a great success? Your broker likely keeps a database of key benchmarks, such as best in class coverage, the claims team, deductible retention and ratings. These benchmarks bleed together to give you the economic foundation for repeatedly successful CCIPs.
