Cranes are an increasingly familiar sight in the New York City sky these days. Not the feathered kind, but the cranes that hoist girders and beams. There's a construction boom being felt throughout the five boroughs that is keeping contractors hard at work to meet the demand for new buildings and renovations. According to research from Dodge Data & Analytics, construction activity has risen nearly 50% so far this year. "Hotel and tourism construction, including retail and cultural facilities, are particularly strong, especially outer-borough hotel construction in the mid-market," affirms Carlo Scissura, president and CEO of the New York Building Congress (NYBC).
