Assessing Undiscovered Oil

The World Energy Assessment Team of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has just completed a five-year study to assess conventional oil, gas, and natural gas liquids (NGL) resources of the world outside the United States that have the potential to be added to reserves within a 30-year time frame (1995-2025). In developing the World Petroleum Assessment 2000, the potential for conventional discoveries in hypothetical and frontier assessment units, as well as in established areas already known to be rich in petroleum, was examined.
