The March 30, 1998 issue of Chemical and Engineering News (C&EN) contains a six-page article about "The New World of Solar Energy - Demand in Japan, Germany, and developing countries drives photovoltaic sales to new highs, prices to new lows." The reporter, Jeff Johnson, opens his treatise with the phrase "After decades of life support..." He claims that companies that had long operated in the red are now in the black. One must read further, though, to understand what this dream is all about.
