ETHICAL ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE - HUMAN VIRTUES OF THE FUTURE

This book from the prestigious MIT Press is certainly provocative - especially to an increasingly radical 'climate sceptic" such as myself. Its cover photo shows a desolate and dangerous scene, which the captions says was taken from a beach house near Galveston, Texas in March 2008, shortly before the house was destroyed by hurricane Ike, after Katrina the second-costliest to ever hit the USA. The content written by a total of 18 authors including the two editors is impeccably edited and arranged, but the book's first five works concern the subject of "ecological restoration", which itself is already a controversial theme. The work by Andrew Light, for example ('The Death of Restoration'), argues that restoration is fraught by so many unknowns, and conflicting goals that using other terms, such as 'reconciliation' or 'regeneration' may be more suited to what will really be possible.
