2011 MAR 7 - (VerticalNews.com) -- A new study, 'Biomimetic matrices forrnmyocardial stabilization and stem cell transplantation,' is now available. According to recentrnresearch from the United States, "Although natural biological matrices have demonstratedrnmodest improvement in the survival of cells transplanted into the infarcted myocardium, thesernmaterials have not been amenable to systematic optimization and therefore have limitedrnpotential to treat postinfarct cardiac injuries. Here we have developed tunable bioactive semiinterpenetratingrnpolymer network (sIPN) hydrogels with matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) labilerncrosslinkers to be used as an assistive microenvironment for transplantation of bone marrowderivedrnmesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into the infarcted myocardium."
