摘要

Classical hydraulic power steering is being replaced electric power steering, or EPS, in a growing number of cars. There are several reasons for this, including that EPS uses less power (therefore less fuel), it's easier to install, has lower fault susceptibility, can be adapted to different car models and, above all, offers greater driving comfort and safety through sophisticated control algorithms. However, despite its benefits, one drawback is that if a problem occurs in the EPS Electronic Control Unit (ECU), because of the missing power steering assistance only a limited number of vehicle operations are possible. EPS system manufacturers are working on solving this issue through redundancies to offer a fault-tolerant system that at least guarantees safe operation.
