Continuing progress in computing, in the long run, depends on making a success of parallel processing. A distributed operating system that has simplified code generation and efficient code execution on a network of processors is Taos. It supports binary portable parallel software running on a network of mixed, heterogeneous processors of arbitrary configuration.
