Scent stimulation is widely used in day lives such as in aromatherapy. However, the effect of scent stimulation on humans remains unclear. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a system to evaluate the cardiovascular response to scent stimulation for use in biofeedback applications. In this study, we developed a device for quantitative and short-term stimulation. We evaluated the heartbeat response to scent stimulation with this device. The experiments revealed that the R-R interval (RRI) was reduced by grapefruit scent stimulation. In addition, the RRI was likely to be controlled by scent stimulation with grapefruit and lavender.
