Coincidentally, I started writing this review on the day when the first-ever laboratory-grown burger was publicly tasted in London. "This is meat to me. It's not falling apart," said one of the tasters on trying this £250,000 patty. It will be hard to find a better example of an extremely utilitarian attitude to food as a purely scientific product of a protracted chemical reaction; the product that - although tasteless and not very attractive in appearance (though not quite "falling apart"), can be used to maintain the human lifecycle by supplying the body with energy. How monumentally boring!
