The communications industry has recently achieved a milestone by deploying more than 100 million DSL (digital subscriber line) lines. DSL is the primary broadband technology used to deliver triple play (Internet, Voice-over-IP, and video services) to homes using existing copper telephone lines. While less then 10% of the worldwide installed telephone lines are today equipped with DSL technology, shipments continue to expand, and this market segment is bound to grow in coming years. Although there are three different flavors of DSL technology, the asymmetric ADSL and ADSL2+ constitute almost 90% of the deployment today.
