PURPOSE: An ADSL modem device and an ADSL modem communication method are provided to enable a transceiver to transceive a carrier designated by a communication standard in a handshake procedure, while enabling a processor to predict a communication distance from other ADSL modem device according to a receiving level of the carrier. CONSTITUTION: A transmission processor of a transceiver comprises as follows. A reed-solomon encoder(21) adds a redundancy bit for error checking. An interleave unit(22) enables a burst error correction during a reed-solomon decoding process. A trellis encoder(23) carries out a data convolution from a trellis encoding process. A tone ordering unit(24) assigns bits to each carrier. A constellation encoder(25) assigns topology of transmission data to constellation coordinates. An IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) unit(26) executes an IFFT process for data after the constellation encoding process.
