Many companies outsource, but few incor-porate virtual manufacturing in their core business strategy. Using virtual manufacturing, the OEM outsources all services not related to its core competencies (product design, marketing, and sales). The benefits to the OEM are extensive. Manufacturing and materials costs are reduced, capital is utilized more efficiently for a better return on assets, exposure to overstocked or out-of-date inventory is eliminated, and distribution logistics improve. The risk? Selecting the wrong Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) partner.
