We've all begun taking our cell phones — one of the electronics industry's (and sometimes daily life's) most important products — for granted. We hear the voice on the other end of the phone as clear as if they were next door, although they actually may be across the ocean. In these cases, chances are that more reliable, inherently stable ceramic interconnect technologies were used in the design and manufacturing process. Ceramic interconnection substrate technologies have a long history of meeting a broad range of electronic interconnection needs. These technologies have dominated markets requiring very high performance and reliability, including military and aerospace. These materials and processes also are widely used in high-volume production for harsh environment applications, such as automotive electronics, as well as high-performance, medical electronics applications. Their compactness and robustness means they are now being used in a variety of cost-sensitive hand-held wireless applications and in low-cost consumer electronics.
