Phonex rolls combo bridge

Midvale, Utah ― Phonex Broad-band Corp. expanded its interest in power line networking at the Consumer Electronics Show. The NeverWire combo USB/ Ethernet bridge, shipping in volume in the second quarter, won CES 2003 Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase honors at this year's Las Vegas show. Phonex also disclosed early design information on a digital version of its popular Ready-Wire jack, this one deploying an internally developed ARM-based ASIC. The NeverWire bridge uses the X1 MAC-layer and physical-layer power line chip from Intellon Corp. Phonex has offered NeverWire bridges for either Ethernet or the Universal Serial Bus, but the combo device is intended for games and compute platforms where flexibility between USB connectivity and Ethernet home local-area networks is desired. It will list at $99 per node or $189 per set, with retail discounting available.
