E-Communities: Enabling the Electronic Handshake

The potential of e-business to streamline business processes is no secret, but success depends on more than technology. It's old-fashioned business relationships between suppliers, customers and partners that make or break e-business initiatives. That simple truth was overshadowed in recent years, as businesses and providers scrambled to keep up with the e-business technology buzzword bandwagon. But, as the deafening hype over e-business has faded in recent months, attention has turned back to where it should have been all along: developing business relationships and expanding them into e-business relationships. E-community development isn't a new concept; it's been a practice for more than 20 years among those that have developed successful electronic data interchange-based e-business communities.
