TRENDS IN END APPLICATIONS indicate that OEMs continue to pull for greater speed and resolution, as well as lower distortion, dissipation, size, and cost. To meet their customers' demands, converter designers have not developed wholly new architectures; those are rare events, indeed. Instead, existing architectures, having evolved far past their inventors' imaginings, continue to enjoy rapid development in what has become a highly competitive segment of the IC industry.
